Friday in the Third Week of Easter
John 6:52-59

The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us his Flesh to eat?" Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the Flesh of the Son of Man and drink his Blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my Flesh is true food, and my Blood is true drink. Whoever eats my Flesh and drinks my Blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever." These things he said while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer is for The Catholic Church in China.

Jesus didn't have a half-an-hour infomercial. Jesus didn't have his own podcast. Jesus didn't have an email address to say, "It's True... L@@K!"

Like any good salesman, He believes in what He is offering because He knows what we need. He proclaims The Truth in today's reading: Whoever eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood has eternal life. It's not sugar-coated and it doesn't come with a slick brochure. It comes with nails and a cross.

Every mass, as the priest holds His Body and His Blood before me, I pray, "I believe, Lord. Help my unbelief." It's not something that logic can explain, but it is only through faith that I can say "I believe" whenever I receive Him in His Body and His Blood.

We don't need slick brochures and sales Web sites. We need faith to believe that Jesus Christ is truly present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist. Take care and God Bless.
