Matthew 13: 36-43

Jesus dismissed the crowds and went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field." He said in reply, "He who sows good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world, the good seed the children of the Kingdom. The weeds are the children of the Evil One, and the enemy who sows them is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. Just as weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his Kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for Christians in Egypt.

It's a question we ask even today: why is there evil in the world? Why do people do evil things? Why do I do sinful things?

Jesus not only knows about it, but He warns us about it.

The faithful stand side by side in this field with those who do evil, willingly or unknowingly. The faithful share the same field with those who want to denounce God ... those who kill God's children ... those who abuse God's ways. We stand side by side, and sometimes, it is ourselves.

Jesus not only knows about it, but He warns us about it.

Not only does He warn us about it, but He calls us through the evils of our day. When children are being aborted in the womb, we are called to "shine like the sun" and pray, love and defend life. When we have family and friends who are killing themselves through addiction, we are called to "shine like the sun" with God's mercy and love and compassion. When we ourselves are trapped in sin, we are called to "shine like the sun" and confess our sins and seek Christ's healing, both in Him and in His body.

Shine like the sun! The evil one is planting weeds, and God is allowing it. If He is allowing it, then it is for our good. It is for our good that we turn to Him in our desperate prayers. It is for our good that we learn His ways when the ways of the evil one are being accepted as "good seed".

Jesus not only knows about it, but He warns us about it. Let us trust in Him, then, that the evil of our day is purifying us so that we may shine like the sun. Take care and God Bless.
