Mark 6: 1-6

Jesus departed from there and came to his native place, accompanied by his disciples. When the sabbath came he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished. They said, "Where did this man get all this? What kind of wisdom has been given him? What mighty deeds are wrought by his hands! Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joseph and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him. Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house." So he was not able to perform any mighty deed there, apart from curing a few sick people by laying his hands on them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for laws that support the dignity of life.

Around ten years ago, I moved from one parish to another. In my "roaming" Catholic days, a priest invited me to join the parish and to participate in the music ministry (he heard me play guitar once). So, I did as he said.

A few months later, the bass player got suddenly ill. I told the music director that I played bass and he gave me a curious look. I told them that he could trust me, and so he let me play bass for Mass. From that point on, he knew and thus had the freedom to ask me if he ever needed someone to play bass.

If he would have said no, I would have at least tried to relay more information, but in the end, it was his decision. For as much as I would have wanted to share the gifts that God has given me to alleviate the stress of another, I ultimately couldn't have changed his mind.

I believe that God has the power to change hearts, but ultimately it is up to the person whom God is calling. How will they know?

As I was at Mass, saying how I could fill-in on bass, I relayed my experience. He was skeptical at first, but the more I relayed, the more he was open.

What is our experience with Our Lord? Do we know Him from when we were children only, as many know Him? Or, do we know Him from a point of continual experience? If we know Him from a point of view of continuing to walk with Him, then are we free to relay our experience when someone is in need?

If we can be the testament for God and His dominion, then shouldn't we be open to the gifts that God has for us today?

Where can we be humble, Lord, so that You may be glorified? Take care and God Bless.
