Matthew 22: 1-14

Jesus again in reply spoke to the chief priests and the elders of the people in parables saying, "The Kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. He dispatched his servants to summon the invited guests to the feast, but they refused to come. A second time he sent other servants, saying, 'Tell those invited: "Behold, I have prepared my banquet, my calves and fattened cattle are killed, and everything is ready; come to the feast."' Some ignored the invitation and went away, one to his farm, another to his business. The rest laid hold of his servants, mistreated them, and killed them. The king was enraged and sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. Then the king said to his servants, 'The feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy to come. Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find.' The servants went out into the streets and gathered all they found, bad and good alike, and the hall was filled with guests. But when the king came in to meet the guests he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment. He said to him, 'My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?' But he was reduced to silence. Then the king said to his attendants, 'Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.' Many are invited, but few are chosen."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

Have you ever been invited to a wedding that was out of town? If you're like me, you probably wait until a month before the wedding before you book your flight, rent-a-car and hotel room. Maybe two months before, you can make sure you have the time off in order to make sure you can be at the wedding.

There is often a process involved in preparing to celebrate ... in preparing to share in the joy of the wedding feast.

In the preparation, there is some sacrifice involved. You will use up your time off. You spend time finding a cheap ticket and a cheap hotel room, then you set money aside for it. If you're adventurous, you may even spend some time finding out what you can do around the city.

One thing that I know from experience: if you wait to purchase your ticket, the prices go up and it makes it tougher to decide if you want to go on the trip. If you wait to take the time off from work, you may not get it which would mean that you would have to take time off of work unpaid.

For most of us, we have been given really advanced notice. If God has given us this time, then it is because we need it. In His wisdom, He knows that we need every second, starting now, to prepare for the Heavenly feast.

Isn't it great to know that we can do this weekly? Every Sunday, we have the opportunity to be present at the Heavenly feast. Each week, we can take a step closer to the eternal Heavenly feast through the Feast offered to us here on earth. Each week ... each day ... we are in preparation to share in the joy of Our Father in Heaven.

How often do we consider this as we prepare for Sunday? Take care and God Bless.
