Friday in the Fifth Week of Lent
John 10: 31-42

The Jews picked up rocks to stone Jesus. Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good works from my Father. For which of these are you trying to stone me?" The Jews answered him, "We are not stoning you for a good work but for blasphemy. You, a man, are making yourself God." Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your law, 'I said,'‘You are gods"'? If it calls them gods to whom the word of God came, and Scripture cannot be set aside, can you say that the one whom the Father has consecrated and sent into the world blasphemes because I said, 'I am the Son of God'? If I do not perform my Father’s works, do not believe me; but if I perform them, even if you do not believe me, believe the works, so that you may realize and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father." Then they tried again to arrest him; but he escaped from their power.

He went back across the Jordan to the place where John first baptized, and there he remained. Many came to him and said, "John performed no sign, but everything John said about this man was true." And many there began to believe in him.

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - in thanksgiving for blessings!

I wonder what would happen if the tables were turned and Jesus said to the crowd, "if you do not believe 'the Pharisees', believe the works." It is worth wondering about.

What about you?

I aspire to be a lot of things in these "Dawg's Thought" reflections. If you read them, you would think that I was a saint. Sometimes I believe it myself and if you had a little stopwatch, you can hear the humbling moment coming down the hallway as the time was counting down.

If you're like me, it seems like it would be a good thing to remember that Jesus poses this question to us as well: "if you do not believe me, believe the works." Do you believe that He walked the way of the cross and was beaten and crucified? Do you believe that He forgave the sins of men and gave the Apostles (and those who they have ordained) the power to do so as well? Do you believe that He opened the eyes of the blind?

"The fruit of silence is prayer. The fruit of prayer is faith. The fruit of faith is love. The fruit of love is service. The fruit of service is peace." - Blessed Mother Teresa

If we believe, it should move us from the restlessness we feel. The Pharisees in the end killed Jesus. Do you believe that their hearts were at peace? Were they "at peace" allowing Jesus to be Lord and Savior? Were they "at peace" with Jesus perfuming miracles so that the Father could be glorified?

Let us seek Christ in order that we may have faith so that we can move toward being at rest in the Lord. Take care and God Bless.
