Memorial of St. Martha
John 11:19-27

Many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary to comfort them about their brother [Lazarus, who had died]. When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him; but Mary sat at home. Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you." Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise." Martha said to him, "I know he will rise, in the resurrection on the last day." Jesus told her, "I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and anyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" She said to him, "Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for those you know who need conversion.

I fear situations where I don't have much control. Often times, I don't fear the situation itself, but rather I question my own ability to be in control.

Martha is often known for asking Jesus to command her sister, Mary, to work. She had her own ideas of control.

I don't connect her with toady's reading as much as the former. In today's reading, Martha is steady because of her faith in Christ. While she may not be able to control the will of God, she's in control of placing her faith in God and allowing Him to do His will.

In my own life, I pray that my desire for control will grow less as my desire to place my faith in His will increases. In that way, hopefully I can allow God to work in my life versus me trying to control how I let Him affect and change me.

Praise God for our suffering, for through it, we have the opportunity to allow God to increase His faith in us. Take care and God Bless.
