Wednesday in the Second Week of Easter
John 3:16-21

God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God. And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for those who struggle with depression, that they may find hope in The Risen Christ.

A man many didn't understand was trapped in "darkness." I never knew the man, so I can only imagine what he went through. What was so dark in his life that he chose to kill 33 people, including himself?

Today we have a reading that seems to make appearances at sporting events quite often. Why? Why hold up a sign that reads: John 3:16?

Hope.

Through Christ's resurrection, we have hope. Through God's love for us, we have hope. God became man so that we will not despair, but rather see that He is greater than death and that He is greater than our sins. He is greater than the fears we have. He is greater and has triumphed over death so that we can choose His light.

We can choose His light, which means that we can also reject His light.

At sporting events, the sign is held up, but we have to remember that we can submit ourselves to God's mercy and love and become beacons of His light. We have to submit, though, to His will for this to happen.

Be that sign that points to The Risen Christ. Be that sign that joyfully chooses the reproaches of Our Lord for the sake of your own soul and for the souls of others. Be that sign that gives hope to those trapped in darkness.

Offer any trials you have today for someone in your life who needs that hope in The Risen Christ. Take care and God Bless.
