Luke 11: 47-54

The Lord said: "Woe to you who build the memorials of the prophets whom your fathers killed. Consequently, you bear witness and give consent to the deeds of your ancestors, for they killed them and you do the building. Therefore, the wisdom of God said, 'I will send to them prophets and Apostles; some of them they will kill and persecute' in order that this generation might be charged with the blood of all the prophets shed since the foundation of the world, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah who died between the altar and the temple building. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be charged with their blood! Woe to you, scholars of the law! You have taken away the key of knowledge. You yourselves did not enter and you stopped those trying to enter." When Jesus left, the scribes and Pharisees began to act with hostility toward him and to interrogate him about many things, for they were plotting to catch him at something he might say.

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - in thanksgiving for the protection of the Archbishop of Khartoum.

I would make a poor prophet. I have a hard time dying to myself, and it seems that it comes with the territory. The Old Testament prophets shed their blood testifying to Our Lord. We, baptized as "priests, prophets and kings," have a hard time dying to our smartphones and other tech gadgets.

The Old Testament prophets, and even the Martyrs of the Church, knew Who they were dying for. Do we know Who we are giving up our lives for? Are we aware of The Lord in our daily lives enough to be prophets who give their entire lives for The Lord?

In our daily frustrations, we can be prophets, dying to ourselves and testifying to Our Lord's goodness. In our daily joys, we can we prophets, dying to pride and giving glory back to God. In this way, we can be "faithful in small things" so that we can be trusted with greater ones (scary thought).

In this way, we grow in love and service to the God Who endured suffering and death. We will grow in love because we will be united with Him in suffering and poverty. We will be united in service because of the witness we will be as prophets proclaiming Christ, the Suffering Servant.

Take care and God Bless.
