Mark 3:22-30

The scribes who had come from Jerusalem said of Jesus, "He is possessed by Beelzebul," and "By the prince of demons he drives out demons."

Summoning them, he began to speak to them in parables, "How can Satan drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand; that is the end of him. But no one can enter a strong man's house to plunder his property unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can plunder his house. Amen, I say to you, all sins and all blasphemies that people utter will be forgiven them. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never have forgiveness, but is guilty of an everlasting sin." For they had said, "He has an unclean spirit."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer is that today, women will be inspired, through the Holy Spirit, not to get an abortion this day. Today we also petition the Holy Spirit to guide lawmakers to defend life. Finally, for Bishop Thomas Olmstead and Aubrey Zerangue, who celebrate birthdays today.

Today, we are a kingdom divided. There are those who have the right to live and those who do not have that right. The population of those who do not have this right continues to grow as lives are judged not be dignity, but by relative "situation."

Today, January 22nd, we mourn the loss of the dignity of the human person.

Today's reading reminds us that we all have a "choice." We can choose to receive God's forgiveness or we can deny God's forgiveness. We can choose to let "the plunderer" have an "in" or we can choose to stay steadfast in all things. We can choose to inform others of God's great power to forgive or we can condemn or, what may be worse, we can see them as less than "human" (because of their "choices") and rob them of their dignity.

If we want an end to abortion, we have to make God's mercy and abundance known to the world. We have to live lives that "affirm" the dignity of every human person. We have to tell the world our stance on life through our actions, words and votes. Otherwise, if all that we're saying is that abortion is wrong, then we deny God's mercy and forgiveness to be known.

Let us pray that more and more people, especially those who are expecting, may know God's mercy so that more and more people will choose life, defend life and uphold the dignity of life in all stages, from conception to natural death.

Take care and God Bless.
