Thursday in the First Week of Advent
Matthew 7:21, 24-27

Jesus said to his disciples: "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the Kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.

"Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock. And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand. The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and buffeted the house. And it collapsed and was completely ruined."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for Michele Lopes, for the grace to cope with various stresses.

One thing I see in some children that I can see in myself is the attitude of "I can do it ... I don't need help." I'm sure you can imagine what great things have come from that.

I can admit one thing, though: I couldn't build a house by myself (although I'm sure given the right ... okay, nevermind). Of course, at this moment I'm thinking more about how it could be done versus today's reading, so please allow me to go back on track ...

I may not know a lot of things, but at the very least I know that God's words will outlast my time here on earth. I know that God's will is far beyond anything I can understand. I know that the rains and the floods have come and will come in my life.

And I know that when it comes down to it, all I really have that will last far beyond the day my guitar turns into dust is The Lord's will and how I chose to follow it.

It is God's everlasting will that will outlast the temptations of this world ... the temptations of admiration, riches, and all other things that take me away from accepting and living God's will. It is the everlasting Rock that I desire to build my house on.

Take care and God Bless.
