Friday in the Sixth Week of Easter
John 16:20-23

Jesus said to his disciples: "Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy. When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world. So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you. On that day you will not question me about anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for safety of those who are traveling this Memorial Day Weekend.

We're a generation that's used to treating symptoms. If you have a pain in your appendix, why not take some Tylenol to feel better. If a child has a hard time controlling himself, why not just give him some "medicine" to calm him down. If a baseball player wants to... okay, I'll just stop it at that.

We can ask for many things from Our Lord (insert your prayer intention here). I think what we have to look at, though, is are we just treating a symptom? Are we trying to cope with the pain in our side that could ultimately be appendicitis? Are we asking God for coping mechanisms versus solving the ache of our hearts? Are we seeking ways to rejoice so that we can hide the longing we have to be with Our Lord in heaven?

The motto of "Just Do It" should be rephrased to "Find Ways to Cope With It." It ultimately does not answer the ache of our hearts or the desire of Our Father in Heaven. So, what are you going to ask The Father in Jesus' Most Holy Name? Take care and God Bless.
