Matthew 5: 43-48

Jesus said to his disciples: "You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same? So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those who are suffering from the cross of cancer.

There was someone I knew who wanted to make an important change in her life. She had been living a life on the streets, dealing drugs and selling her body money. It was heartbreaking to hear her stories.

She ultimately made the decision that she wanted to live a changed life.

I remember talking to her a few weeks after she decided to join the "core team" for a teen program at a local parish. She said that she felt like an outsider, and that everyone had their "clique" and she wasn't a part of it. She ultimately ended up leaving and going back to the streets where she was accepted.

How can the streets be more "loving" than inside the walls of the Church?

When it came to the streets, she was known.

When I think of how I am called to love, I need to realize that I share a common bond with all those around me. I sin, just like the abortion doctor. I need to turn to Christ for forgiveness, just like the drug dealer. I desire to be known, just like the rapist.

We all share the common bond of our sinfulness, and we all share the fountain of mercy Who is Our Lord, Jesus Christ. The more I desire to see myself as Christ sees me, I pray that I will be able to see my neighbor as Christ sees them as well. Hopefully, we can strive to be perfect in our love through the imperfections we have in common. Take care and God Bless.
