Mark 12: 13-17

Some Pharisees and Herodians were sent to Jesus to ensnare him in his speech. They came and said to him, "Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you are not concerned with anyone's opinion. You do not regard a person's status but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or should we not pay?" Knowing their hypocrisy he said to them, "Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius to look at." They brought one to him and he said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?" They replied to him, "Caesar's." So Jesus said to them, "Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God." They were utterly amazed at him.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for those who are unemployed.

It's the familiar scene: the Pharisees came to try to prove that they are smarter than God. They had no need for Jesus as Healer ... Teacher ... Savior ...

The scene is familiar throughout history: the Age of Enlightenment, Communism, etc.

The scene is familiar today. With all the wonderful discoveries and advancements in technology, I have seen more and more opportunities for people to turn to other distractions versus turning to God. I am blessed to have the whole world of instant access right in front of me on my computer, and yet I still struggle to reach the infinite that is beyond this world in the simple act of praying a Rosary. I can watch videos on my cell phone, and yet I struggle being still before my God Who not only animates me, but animates this whole world.

We have a lot of distractions ... a lot of ways to escape ... a lot of ways to elevate ourselves (in our own minds) above the divine. Yet, we can never be beyond Who created us in His image and likeness. Created by Our Lord, let us give to God what is His: our lives.

Take care and God Bless.
