Feast of Saint Philip and Saint James
John 14: 6-14

Jesus said to Thomas, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him." Philip said to him, "Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us." Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else, believe because of the works themselves. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father. And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - For Oliver Jude, who was born six weeks early, and for his parents and the doctors.

I used to be a staff member at a home for expectant women living on the streets. The house was started by five women and I became the sixth staff member after one of them left to go back to graduate school.

I usually had the morning shift answering phones and being in the office. So, I would get the phone calls asking about volunteering and donations. Many of them would say, "may I please speak to one of the girls," to which I would respond, "none of them are here; is there anything I can help with." They would normally say that they wanted to leave a message about something that I could have helped them out with.

While that seems like a little thing, what if the person on the other line was someone who needed a place to live and she lost her spot because she didn't think that talking to me would have gotten her the desired outcome?

Philip wanted to see the Father and Jesus was right there. Philip wanted to see the Father.

We know that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. What a great blessing it would be if we could see Him?

It is not His will that we see Him walking this earth in His risen Body, but doesn't He give us His Body and Blood in the Eucharist? Didn't He say that He is in the poor and the those imprisoned? Are we neglecting Him today, even after He tells us in the Scriptures that He is with us?

Philip was with Jesus for "so long a time" and even then couldn't recognize Our Lord. Will we fail to recognize Him as well? Take care and God Bless.
