Mark 12:13-17

Some Pharisees and Herodians were sent to Jesus to ensnare him in his speech. They came and said to him, "Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you are not concerned with anyone's opinion. You do not regard a person's status but teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or should we not pay?" Knowing their hypocrisy he said to them, "Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius to look at." They brought one to him and he said to them, "Whose image and inscription is this?" They replied to him, "Caesar's." So Jesus said to them, "Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God." They were utterly amazed at him.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for the soul of someone I knew who I just heard today killed himself. I also pray for his family and friends who mourn his loss.

What happens when we lose sight of ourselves being made in the image and likeness of God?

In today's world, more and more people seem themselves as objects. Employers see workers as replaceable objects for financial gain. Men and women see "partners" as objects for their own gratification sexually and in their own appearance to the world. There are many instances.

Ultimately, we have lost what it means to be "persons" made in the image and likeness of God. We see ourselves as "objects" like the denarius.

What does that do to our image of Who God is? Is God a utilitarian God, or is God someone Who gives us the freedom to be persons through the gift of free will?

Celebrate the dignity you have in being made in the image and likeness of God so that we can "give to God what is God's." Take care and God Bless.
