Mark 8:14-21

The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, and they had only one loaf with them in the boat. Jesus enjoined them, "Watch out, guard against the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod." They concluded among themselves that it was because they had no bread. When he became aware of this he said to them, "Why do you conclude that it is because you have no bread? Do you not yet understand or comprehend? Are your hearts hardened? Do you have eyes and not see, ears and not hear? And do you not remember, when I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many wicker baskets full of fragments you picked up?" They answered him, "Twelve." "When I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many full baskets of fragments did you pick up?" They answered him, "Seven." He said to them, "Do you still not understand?"

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for those who have been affected by the shooting in the mall in Salt Lake City. Also, for teenagers who are struggling to find answers, that God gives them the grace to know His mercy.

I used to love doing Mad Libs as a kid. For those who don't know what it is, you had to come up with words (they'd ask you for a noun, adjective, verb, adverb, etc.) and then you input your words into a story. It was a great source of comedy for me as a kid (as I had, and still have, a pretty active imagination).

What does that have to do with today's reading? Beyond recalling God's faithfulness in your life (especially in times of struggle), it also reminded me of how the circumstances we go through now may not make sense to us. In fact, when I look at my own trials, it reminds me of a Mad Lib: go through this... go through that... give me this... give me that...

Yet, in the things that we are called to give and in the things that we are called to sacrifice, God is trying to make us holy. It's our choice to cooperate.

As you reflect on your own struggles today, remember God's faithfulness, both in the scriptures and in your own life. Remember that you are blessed in your poverty. Remember that the trials you're going through today are a small part of your own testimony to God's faithfulness to His people.

And never forget. Take care and God Bless.
