Thursday in the Third Week of Easter
John 6:44-51

Jesus said to the crowds: "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day. It is written in the prophets: They shall all be taught by God. Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me. Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died; this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my Flesh for the life of the world."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for those who are unemployed.

This evening I sat around a table with 2 old friends on either side of me, and 2 other old friends on the phone. Many years ago, the 5 of us, along with one other, were staff members of a home for pregnant women who were alone or living on the streets.

The two friends of either side of me were struggling with some major hardships in their lives at this time.

God gave manna to those in the desert. They had nothing except the poverty that allowed them to cry to God in their need. In their poverty, God was able to show His mercy and faithfulness to them.

As I look at my own struggles, and as I think of the struggles of friends, I am grateful for the Eucharist. God knew our need, and He provides for our poverty with His own Body and Blood. God knew our struggles, and as we share in His Body and Blood, we are united with Christ Who suffered and died.

We are united with Christ Who also rose from the dead.

In our struggles, God desires to reveal Himself to you, and He does. Every time we go through a tough time and God brings us through, give praise to God for His resurrection. As you remember the resurrection, praise Him Who gives Himself to you so that you may have eternal life. Take care and God Bless.
