Thursday in the Third Week of Lent
Luke 11:14-23

Jesus was driving out a demon that was mute, and when the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke and the crowds were amazed. Some of them said, "By the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons, he drives out demons." Others, to test him, asked him for a sign from heaven. But he knew their thoughts and said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste and house will fall against house. And if Satan is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that it is by Beelzebul that I drive out demons. If I, then, drive out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your own people drive them out? Therefore they will be your judges. But if it is by the finger of God that I drive out demons, then the Kingdom of God has come upon you. When a strong man fully armed guards his palace, his possessions are safe. But when one stronger than he attacks and overcomes him, he takes away the armor on which he relied and distributes the spoils. Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for the repose of the soul of Henry Wickert.

I had a conversation once with someone who was scared about her future. We took out a piece of paper and I asked her to draw herself, and then draw a square that showed me how large her problems were compared to her. She made this huge square and a little her.

Next, I asked her to draw a square the size of God, and she almost took up the whole page. Then I asked her to draw the size of her problems and she drew a tiny square on the outside of the large square.

Finally, I asked her to draw herself attached to the large square and then compare how big her problems were compared to the combination of herself and God together.

As I was driving to work one morning, a driver on the road was driving crazy. In my mind, she became a problem. After stewing in my thoughts about how uncharitable this woman was driving, I thought about Jesus and how the victory is already won. It was a moment when I was able to finally say to God, "I want to align myself with You for there is no more victory for me to win... You already one it."

Are you with God? I thought about the alternative to my driving story: I could have tried to act like a jerk right back. If I did that, who am doing the work of?

May God give us the grace to be able to make decisions that are united in His truth and not our own. Take care and God Bless.
