Matthew 13: 10-17

The disciples approached Jesus and said, "Why do you speak to the crowd in parables?" He said to them in reply, "Because knowledge of the mysteries of the Kingdom of heaven has been granted to you, but to them it has not been granted. To anyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because they look but do not see and hear but do not listen or understand. Isaiah's prophecy is fulfilled in them, which says:

You shall indeed hear but not understand,
you shall indeed look but never see.
Gross is the heart of this people,
they will hardly hear with their ears,
they have closed their eyes,
lest they see with their eyes
and hear with their ears
and understand with their hearts and be converted
and I heal them.

"But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear. Amen, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for the faithful in China.

Have you ever had someone who wanted to give you something good, yet you reject it because you were too proud to receive an act of charity? Most of my family is that way.

It seems like a false sense of humility, communicating that you do not need the gift ... that you do not need anyone else to help you. In a way, then, it seems like a way of pride.

If we are humble before the Lord, it seems like a natural consequence that we would be "rich" in a way that we do not understand. It's almost like a debit card that The Father has provided us with.

In times of suffering, we could use our faith "debit card" to remember Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane as He prayed, "not as I will, but as You will, Father." Great thing is that the more we use, the more He seems to deposit.

As I alluded to earlier, I feel like a lot of my life has been spent wanting to show God that I can "pay for things on my own." Unfortunately, I seem to have gone into "debt" (oddly enough, this reflection has seemed to have taken on a "parable" type nature). There seems to be a growing apathy because we have gone into spiritual "debt". Is it any wonder why so many turn to addictions?

I remember working with a mother at a home for expectant I was a staff member at. As we talked, she told me that her problems are greater than her. So, I asked her to draw a picture of herself, and she drew a little stick figure. I then asked her to draw how big her problems are compared to to the stick figure and she drew a big box next to her that was twice her height. Then, I asked to to draw how big God is, and she said that the paper wasn't large enough. I told her to try, and she drew a box larger than the paper.

Then I asked her, "how big are your problems compared to you united with God?"

I won't lie, her problems were big. Yet, if it were not for her large problems, why would she want to be in union with a loving and generous God?

Let us not have gross hearts, but humble ones ...

Lord, increase so that i may have the freedom to decrease. Amen.

Take care and God Bless.
