Luke 4:14-22

Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news of him spread throughout the whole region. He taught in their synagogues and was praised by all.

He came to Nazareth, where he had grown up, and went according to his custom into the synagogue on the sabbath day. He stood up to read and was handed a scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the passage where it was written:

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring glad tidings to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.

Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him. He said to them, "Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing." And all spoke highly of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for the recovery of Maggie's Place from the fire on New Year's Eve.

I'm not good at seeing my own faults. I have become a great master at hiding them so as not to be seen as "weak" or "needy".

I don't want to be seen as "poor" or "brokenhearted". I don't want to be seen as "captive" even though I know that I am captive to my own sins. I don't want to be seen as blind, even though I know that God can see what I need and how I fail. I don't want people to see that I am oppressed, but maybe because I'm the oppressor.

The truth is I hide behind a lot of the gifts and talents that I know I have. What I hide is why God became One like us. I would do Him a great disservice if I only gave Him my gifts and not my faults.

So, Lord, here I am. Please, bring me the glad tidings my heart longs for in its poverty so that I may come to know You as My Lord and My God. Amen.

Take care and God Bless.
