Matthew 13: 36-43

Jesus dismissed the crowds and went into the house. His disciples approached him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field." He said in reply, "He who sows good seed is the Son of Man, the field is the world, the good seed the children of the Kingdom. The weeds are the children of the Evil One, and the enemy who sows them is the Devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. Just as weeds are collected and burned up with fire, so will it be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will collect out of his Kingdom all who cause others to sin and all evildoers. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears ought to hear."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those you know who sick and in need of healing at this time.

"... the righteous will shine like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father ..."

The mother after she has given birth to her child. The child who wants can't wait for their parents to see what grade they got on their test. The proud graduate receiving their degree ...

The righteous in heaven will shine brighter than all these.

As we are here in this field, the joy that we all long for seems so far away. The harvest seems like an eternity away.

That ache, I have come to realize, is something beautiful. It is in that ache that reminds me that I there is a heaven that we are working toward, and that our labor is here on earth. It reminds me that, united with the suffering of Christ on the cross, we are working for the salvation of our own souls and the souls we love. In that way, we can share in the labor as farmers with Our Lord.

And on that day, when we will "shine" because we are so filled with joy to be alone at last with Our Lord, we will look down on what seemed like steep steps and give thanks. Amen.

Take care and God Bless.
