Mark 3:13-19

Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted and they came to him. He appointed Twelve, whom he also named Apostles, that they might be with him and he might send them forth to preach and to have authority to drive out demons: He appointed the Twelve: Simon, whom he named Peter; James, son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James, whom he named Boanerges, that is, sons of thunder; Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus; Thaddeus, Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.

Dawg's thought:

As the anniversary of Roe v. Wade approaches, today's prayer intention is for an end to abortion.

There were twelve.

These twelve didn't know what was going to happen. What they knew was that they would have to leave family and friends. What they did know was what they would be giving up. What they did know was that Jesus Christ was someone special (Peter's declaration hadn't happened yet).

In the same way, we are all called to follow Christ. What have you had to give up? What did you expect the Christian life to be like? I bet it was nothing like what you have now. I know it's true for me.

A big theme in my life lately is the idea of "obedience through hope." The disciples had hope in Who Christ was and therefore could be obedient to Christ's invitation. In the same way, we can place our hope in Christ or not. We can place our hope in money and be obedient to it. We can place our hope in "service" and "charity," but that would fall short too. We can place our hope in ourselves which could lead to believing that all truth is "relative."

There were twelve who hoped that Jesus was The Christ. Who do you place your hope in? Take care and God Bless.
