Matthew 5: 20-26

Jesus said to his disciples: "I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter into the Kingdom of heaven.

"You have heard that it was said to your ancestors, You shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment. But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment, and whoever says to his brother, 'Raqa,' will be answerable to the Sanhedrin, and whoever says, 'You fool,' will be liable to fiery Gehenna. Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Settle with your opponent quickly while on the way to court with him. Otherwise your opponent will hand you over to the judge, and the judge will hand you over to the guard, and you will be thrown into prison. Amen, I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for the repose of the soul of Ethan Mills.

While I was at the grocery store, I got a strange text message. No identifying themselves and inviting me to to correspond back. It seemed like a possible attempt to get information.

Within a few minutes, that number was placed on a block list.

As I read today's reading, it made me think about our society today. We connect with people on Facebook, LinkedIn, Skype, etc. The minute an interaction doesn't go favorably, it's easy enough to block the user.

I wish I could say that real life is different, but as I see interactions with different people, it seems that this way of interacting with others has permeated into our everyday lifestyle.

With that in mind, in today's reading, if you're "angry" with your brother or if you insult someone, why extend a hand in forgiveness or reconciliation? Are the relationships that we have in our world today so utilitarian?

On the other side of the phone / screen is an unrepeatable person ... child of God ... made to love and serve Our Lord. If we disregard the living person before us, what does that say to us about how we view life in its most vulnerable stages? How do we view ourselves who bears the same imprint of God? How do we view Our God Who made our neighbor?

Let us treat each other with the dignity Christ gives you. Remember, you are more than someone on the other side of communication devise. You are more than someone who can be discarded. You are unrepeatable, made with a special gift that glorifies God in the way that only you can do. Remember this, and remember that your neighbor is trying to live the same calling.

Take care and God Bless.
