Feast of St. Thomas the Apostle
John 20:24-29

Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, "We have seen the Lord." But Thomas said to them, "Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nailmarks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe." Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, "Peace be with you." Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe." Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to him, "Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for safety for the 4th of July holiday, especially in light of the recent terrorist acts in Europe.

Today is the Feast of St. Thomas the Apostle.

I have a friend who once told me that he wouldn't believe in God unless some great miracle happened.

Since then, he had been through 2 divorces that involved children. Today, he believes in God and tries to make sure that his kids stay close to God in prayer.

How many times has our faith in God been "conditional"? How many times have we told God that we would pray more if God granted us [insert outrageous prayer request here]. How many times have we said, "I'll act more like a Christian on the roads tomorrow"?

The truth is that we all struggle with our faith everyday. I don't know how many times I had the conviction to change things in my life only to turn back to old ways. I can't even count the many times I've told God "I'm sorry" only to be right back the next week saying "I'm sorry" for the same offenses.

God can work with our weakness. God knows the crosses we bear. He came to Thomas so that he would believe. In the same way, take a moment to praise God today for your weakness and ask Our Lord to use your weakness to grow closer to Him. Take care and God Bless.
