John 1:47-51

Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, "Here is a true child of Israel. There is no duplicity in him." Nathanael said to him, "How do you know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree." Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel." Jesus answered and said to him, "Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than this." And he said to him, "Amen, amen, I say to you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for those who are battling cancer.

First of all, I'd like to apologize for missing the past few days. I was busy preparing for a retreat that happened this weekend.

At the retreat, they put up bags with your name and picture on it. Over the course of the weekend, everyone is encouraged to write something nice about that person in the bag.

The one thing that used to drive me crazy about the past retreats was that I'd often get notes saying thank you for the music. I left the guitar at home this time. I was grateful for that because it seemed like the notes that were left were not about what I do, but about me as a person.

As I was reflecting on today's reading, it reminded me of this. I have that desire to be known because so often I feel isolated. I feel that isolation in my struggles. I feel that isolation in my gifts.

Jesus knows that feeling of isolation and struggle. He knows everything about us. He knows that right now I'm struggling with wrapping up this reflection when all I want to do is go to bed. He knows everything about me.

How should that change my prayer life? How should that affect how I love others and myself?

Be not afraid.

It is what Raphael said to Tobit. It is what Gabriel said to Mary. It is what God is telling me today through Nathanael's doubt.

If you are feeling isolated, recall that God knows you better than yourself. Recall that you are known by Him. Take care and God Bless.
