Matthew 19:16-22

A young man approached Jesus and said, "Teacher, what good must I do to gain eternal life?" He answered him, "Why do you ask me about the good? There is only One who is good. If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments." He asked him, "Which ones?" And Jesus replied, "You shall not kill; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; honor your father and your mother; and you shall love your neighbor as yourself." The young man said to him, "All of these I have observed. What do I still lack?" Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." When the young man heard this statement, he went away sad, for he had many possessions.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for Joe, who is recovering from a mild stroke.

For the rich young man, it was money.

I wish I could pinpoint one thing for me, but the list gets pretty long and overwhelming. It's all the little things that I think that I need versus relying on God alone.

Sometimes it's a twisted thing like pride, especially when it comes to forgiveness or letting someone in who isn't using a turn signal. Other times, it's me taking something that I have been blessed with (like the rich young man) and relying on that versus relying on God. The thing that comes to mind lately is the amount of volunteer work that I'm involved in. I often put that component of my life before taking care of myself so that I can be more authentic in my love for God and love of my neighbor.

It all comes down to is the fear of losing something that I love or something that I rely on greater than my ability to place all my faith in God? Am I willing to sacrifice unity with God for the simple comfort of entering into where He calls me?

Today, let us Christ to open our hearts to trust in Him and to help us see His blessings as blessings from Him that help us turn to Him. Take care and God Bless.
