Mark 7: 24-30

Jesus went to the district of Tyre. He entered a house and wanted no one to know about it, but he could not escape notice. Soon a woman whose daughter had an unclean spirit heard about him. She came and fell at his feet. The woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by birth, and she begged him to drive the demon out of her daughter. He said to her, "Let the children be fed first. For it is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs." She replied and said to him, "Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children's scraps." Then he said to her, "For saying this, you may go. The demon has gone out of your daughter." When the woman went home, she found the child lying in bed and the demon gone.

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for healing for Gloria Kelly.

In my most recent confession, the priest told me that when it comes to my shortcomings, I need to not only trust in Him, but also ask God, "what is my part?"

The woman in today's reading knew about the abundant power of God, and had the faith to know of His generosity. Jesus must have known this, but He desired for her to express the faith that she had. There was a great good in her proclaiming to Jesus, "even the dogs under the table eat the children's scraps." God's grace is so abundant, it overflows.

It is good to acknowledge God's abundance and mercy. It is good to trust in God's abundance and mercy. Yet, there is also "our part" which Christ needs from us. We can acknowledge that there is poverty in this world and we can praise God for all the abundant blessings that we have. Yet, how much greater if we were to show the poor God's mercy and abundance through our charity? You can talk about how good and generous God is, or you can give from the generosity that you have received and show others that God is generous and that His grace is abundant.

In the same way, it wasn't enough for the woman to know God's generosity in her heart. Jesus wanted her to proclaim it. That was her part. What is your part?

Take care and God Bless.
