Thursday in the Second Week of Easter
John 3: 31-36

The one who comes from above is above all. The one who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of earthly things. But the one who comes from heaven is above all. He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. Whoever does accept his testimony certifies that God is trustworthy. For the one whom God sent speaks the words of God. He does not ration his gift of the Spirit. The Father loves the Son and has given everything over to him. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains upon him.

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

I have been in music ministry since 1997. It was a great blessing in my life at the time as I was just getting done with being an RCIA sponsor. I thought it would be a great way to participate in ministry along with the guy I was sponsoring. He dropped out after a few weeks unfortunately, but I stuck around ... for a lot longer than I thought I would.

As such, I have a great love for lyrics that draws people into prayer.

One of the things that I notice is that there are a lot of songs out there that have lyrics that proclaim that "Christ is King" and declares that "Jesus is Lord".

It is great to sing about when you're in the crowd, but how often do we proclaim that Jesus is "above all" ... that Jesus is the One who testifies to what He has seen and heard ... that Jesus was sent from God and speaks the words of God?

It is easy to sing in a crowd of people that Jesus is Lord. It is difficult to sing that Jesus is Lord when you are having a hard time paying your bills. It is difficult to sing that Jesus is Lord when you have a loved one who is suffering. It is difficult to sing that Jesus is Lord when you are dealing with a disease that is ravaging your body.

Yet, that is the song that we can sing daily. It is a song that is heard by so many others beyond those who share the church pew with us.

Imagine the song that is sung when you trust that Jesus will provide for you in your poverty, materially and spiritually? Imagine the song that is sung when you comfort the one you love who is suffering?

It is beyond words, yet look at what this song proclaims ...

"Whoever does accept his testimony certifies that God is trustworthy ... "
"Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life ... "

I never realized this, but I guess I have been in music ministry long before 1997. In fact, I never realized this either, but it is great to know that I am singing along side you and that together as one, we proclaim that Jesus is Lord. Sometimes I may be off key or I may forget the words, but hopefully I keep coming back to the refrain ... Jesus is Lord.

Take care and God Bless.
