Matthew 9:18-26

While Jesus was speaking, an official came forward, knelt down before him, and said, "My daughter has just died. But come, lay your hand on her, and she will live." Jesus rose and followed him, and so did his disciples. A woman suffering hemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him and touched the tassel on his cloak. She said to herself, "If only I can touch his cloak, I shall be cured." Jesus turned around and saw her, and said, "Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you." And from that hour the woman was cured.

When Jesus arrived at the official's house and saw the flute players and the crowd who were making a commotion, he said, "Go away! The girl is not dead but sleeping." And they ridiculed him. When the crowd was put out, he came and took her by the hand, and the little girl arose. And news of this spread throughout all that land.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

At the very core of my heart, there is a desire to hope. I'd like to believe that the same desire is in every human.

Where we place our hope is another story. Some place their hope in what they do, while other place their hope in other people who are searching for that same hope.

At different times in my life, I have placed hope in so many different things. I have placed my hope in ideals, jobs, people, and just about anything else you can turn into an "idol". Thankfully, our God is a jealous God.

Yet, there are those moments in my life... episodes of my own journey... where God completely strips me to the point of where the scales fall off of my eyes. It is there when my prayer is no longer focused on my will, but His. It is there where my hope is fully in Him, and Him alone. It is there that I want to be.

There like the woman who touched the tassel of the cloak of Jesus, placing her hope in Him. Through her suffering, the faith was strengthened and God was glorified.

There like the man whose daughter died, placing her life in His hands and hoping that He can do something. Through the pain of seeing his daughter pass on, he made an act of faith that I can only hope to make.

So, as I look at my own life, I make this prayer from all aspects of my life. From the areas where hope has failed me, I make this prayer humbly asking for forgiveness for my wayward heart. From the areas where I "perceive" that I have control, I surrender it for it is all from Him. From the areas of my life that are uncertain, I make this prayer that I may not fear, but trust in Him so that I can lay down my desire to control.

Jesus, I trust in You.
Jesus, I trust in You.
Jesus, I trust in You.

Take care and God Bless.
