Wednesday in the Third Week of Lent
Matthew 5: 17-19

Jesus said to his disciples: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those who have gone through surgery this past week.

One thing I notice in my interactions with others: they like to talk about what's wrong with other people.

Sometimes, I respond with, "well, what do you want to do with that?"

Can you imagine if Jesus never became man? What if God's response was to merely give us the Ten Commandments and nothing more? What would our lives be like?

We can only imagine this because He did become man. He saw us in our brokenness and acted with compassion. He showed us what it means to be great in the Kingdom of heaven.

In today's reading, we have an invitation to respond and I fear that so many times, my response was merely to judge. So many times, I did not respond as Christ responded to our brokenness. So many times, instead of entering into the suffering, I chose not to respond ... I chose to ignore my responsibility.

We have a responsibility to "obey and teach" the commandments for the sake of the Kingdom of God. Out of love, Christ entered into our suffering. Out of love, He desires to enter into the suffering of all, and we can be that conduit through which His love and mercy encounters the broken. Yet, that can only happen if we "obey and teach" with our lives and our words.

Let us strive for greatness today, for the Kingdom of God is at hand. Take care and God Bless.
