Matthew 9:9-13

As Jesus passed by, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post. He said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him. While he was at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat with Jesus and his disciples. The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" He heard this and said, "Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words, 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' I did not come to call the righteous but sinners."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for Kristen Colson as she goes into surgery at 9:30 am this morning.

When I was in Steubenville, I bought a series of talks on the teachings of St. John of the Cross. Amazing stuff!

One of the points from the talk was that if we are striving for holiness, we will not have time to talk about the sins of others because we will see our own sin so much more.

The Pharisees were so consumed with their own "goodness" that they couldn't see their "pride" as sin. They were so consumed with their own "self-image" that they couldn't see that they needed Jesus to be their physician as well.

I wish I could say that I don't know what it's like to be a Pharisee. Unfortunately, I do know what it's like. I know what it's like to be cruising through life thinking, "man, I'm doing pretty good," only to be humbled by the cross I failed to recognize.

Today, through His Holy Face, ask Jesus to show to you what you the places you need healing and trust in His mercy, not your sacrifice. Take care and God Bless.
