Wednesday, Saint Gregory the Great
Luke 4: 38-44

After Jesus left the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon. Simon's mother-in-law was afflicted with a severe fever, and they interceded with him about her. He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up immediately and waited on them.

At sunset, all who had people sick with various diseases brought them to him. He laid his hands on each of them and cured them. And demons also came out from many, shouting, "You are the Son of God." But he rebuked them and did not allow them to speak because they knew that he was the Christ.

At daybreak, Jesus left and went to a deserted place. The crowds went looking for him, and when they came to him, they tried to prevent him from leaving them. But he said to them, "To the other towns also I must proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God, because for this purpose I have been sent." And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for the elderly who have nobody to take care of them, that God sends them someone this day to show them that they are loved.

None of us know the greatness God calls each of us to, but we will never know that greatness if we are not willing to follow. We will never know that greatness if we are not willing to sacrifice our comfort for the sake of obedience. We will never know that greatness if we settle for things of pleasure versus striving for things of good.

What if Jesus decided He wanted to be popular and went around His whole life performing miracles? Would we be Christians if He did not choose the most loving act versus the most comfortable act? Would we be Christians if The Father decided that He'd seen enough of the crucifixion and saved His Son from the eternal sacrifice? We would not be, because that would be settling from our weakness versus loving.

In today's reading, Jesus could have stayed with the people and settled for a comfortable life, but He knew that it was time to go forth and proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom of God. What about you? Is it time for you to go forth and proclaim the Gospel message as well? Choose the most loving action today. Take care and God Bless.
