Thursday in the Fifth Week of Easter
John 15: 9-11

Jesus said to his disciples: "As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love.

"I have told you this so that my joy might be in you and your joy might be complete."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those who are homeless during the brutal summer months.

A few months ago, I wrote a letter for those who may have fallen away from the Church. It was a way to promote an upcoming retreat that was being hosted by a ministry I sit on the board for.

This letter kept coming to mind as "remind in My love" resonated in my head.

Today's reflection is an excerpt from the letter (please keep in mind that it was written to those who have fallen away):

* * *

"I was Catholic ... "

Is this the way you think of yourself in relation to the Catholic Church today? Please know, we miss you. You are an irreplaceable, unrepeatable child of God, who also created the awe-inspiring mountains, the treacherous oceans, and every brilliant color of the sunset. You are His crowning creation.

Why do you consider yourself a Catholic in the past tense? It is like saying that you "were" a child of your mother. You will always be the image and likeness of God, which is a dignity far greater than following the current “trends” of society today.

Are you ashamed of the faith you were baptized into? Are you afraid of being part of a Church that has been under great scrutiny? Do you not realize that the Catholic Church is more than the mistakes of men? Do you also not realize that the Catholic Church is weakened because you, as one of its members, has decided that it is not right for you?

Have you been hurt by someone in the Church? Did you hear a message that was contrary to what you believed? Did your life get so out of control that Mass was something you had no time for? ...

(the invitation to the retreat went here ... )

If you want some time to think about it, remember this: you were drawn away from the Church. You were persuaded to search for something that made you leave your home. If you want to register "tomorrow", remember that in life, "tomorrow" many times means "the next day" which we are always chasing. Today is a good day to act. Today is a good day to look into the windows of the home you left. This is your chance to hear from your brothers and sisters what it is like at home. There is a chair waiting for you at the dinner table.

I tried running away from home when I was 9 years old. I didn't like living by my parents rules. I didn't last for very long, and now that I'm older, I can see the wisdom behind why my parents did things the way that they did.

Take care and God Bless.
