Mark 12:18-27

Some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus and put this question to him, saying, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us, If someone's brother dies, leaving a wife but no child, his brother must take the wife and raise up descendants for his brother. Now there were seven brothers. The first married a woman and died, leaving no descendants. So the second brother married her and died, leaving no descendants, and the third likewise. And the seven left no descendants. Last of all the woman also died. At the resurrection when they arise whose wife will she be? For all seven had been married to her." Jesus said to them, "Are you not misled because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? When they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but they are like the angels in heaven. As for the dead being raised, have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God told him, I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not God of the dead but of the living. You are greatly misled."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for a friend of mine who just got engaged and who just found out today that he's being sent to Iraq for the next 18 months.

Free. Total. Faithful. Fruitful.

That is God's love for us. In marriage, it's also how you're called to love your spouse.

Today's reading reminded me of the last of the four: fruitful. We live in a society that is becoming "anti-life" between abortion, contraception, and now the "tolerance" of homosexual marriage.

Marriage is becoming diluted, and if "true, sacramental marriage" is meant to reveal God's love as "free, total, faithful and fruitful", how is our concept of God's love going to change? In both homosexual acts and "contracepted" sexual acts, there is no openness to their love being "fruitful", as in today's reading. In the "contracepted" sexual act, there isn't even "total" because, in essence, one person says to the other, "I don't accept your fertility."

If you truly believe that world must know that God's love is truly "free, total, faithful and faithful", please pray for an end to this culture of death. Please pray a restoration of the dignity of marriage. We must not lose Who God is by being tolerant of sin and by silently empowering others to enter into a lifestyle of sin. Take care and God Bless.
