Feast of the Chair of St. Peter
Matthew 16: 13-19

When Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" They replied, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter said in reply, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the Kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for the repose of the soul of Ali Adelman.

Have you ever thought to yourself, "if only I were there and made that declaration, I would be pope!" Well, maybe I'm the only who has thought this.

Yet, it was an act of God that Peter made this great declaration; it was not an act done on his own. It was God's will that the Church here on earth would have a pope as the "servant of the servants", of which Peter was the first.

Looking at your own life, there's the temptation of thinking about how ordinary your life may be. When I look at my own life, I think about how I have not been given any great calling or any great mission. There's a temptation to want to live a life outside of the life that I have been given.

Through it all, it is always good to remember ... YOU glorify God. Not your acts ... not your talents ... not your declarations of faith ... it is YOU who glorifies God. It is a liberating thought. You don't have to do great things ... you don't have to be great in the eyes of this world ... you don't have to be perfect. What God has called you to do today is what we should be striving for.

So, praise God that we have been blessed with a great Pope to lead the church ... Bishops and priests who serve God's people through the Sacraments ... women religious who are living at this moment what we all strive to be (married to Christ) ... husbands and wives who reveal the mystery of God in each other and the world ... single men and women who have the freedom to seek God's will and do God's will in a unique way ... children whom Christ calls us to emulate ...

How great is our God that He created us as His crowning creation! Live fully today the vocation that God has called you to live everyday: holiness. May we do this well, and in the end, we will be with St. Peter, the first Pope, giving full glory to God.

Take care and God Bless.
