Thursday in the Fourth Week of Easter
John 13: 16 - 20

When Jesus had washed the disciples' feet, he said to them: "Amen, amen, I say to you, no slave is greater than his master nor any messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you understand this, blessed are you if you do it. I am not speaking of all of you. I know those whom I have chosen. But so that the Scripture might be fulfilled, The one who ate my food has raised his heel against me. From now on I am telling you before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe that I AM. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for an end to the use of contraception.

Whom have you chosen to be your master? I want to think that I have chosen God to be my Master, but there are many times when I have chosen a different master.

It makes me think: why would I want my pride to be greater than me? Why would I want my fears to be greater than me.

It's hard to remember that we are created with a special and unique dignity, and it is a dignity that is given to us by Our Lord. Money ... human respect ... why is it so easy to take on masters that cannot even compare to the beauty and the dignity of the human person?

I wonder if it's because those masters give us the illusion that we are our own master. The evil one is still tempting us with the fruit of the tree: we don't need God for we can be our own god. Can you imagine what you could buy if you won the lottery? Can you imagine what it would be like if everyone thought how perfect you are and had the utmost respect for you?

They didn't have much respect for Christ. Although we can never be greater than Him, we would do well to emulate the Master we desire to share the eternal life with. He didn't care for human opinion; he cared for you.

For so long, I have sought the approval of others, making them my master. It's about time that I took on a different Master: Jesus Christ, Who sought the salvation of my soul over the opinions of those who put Him to death. He is the Master I choose.

Take care and God Bless.
