Matthew 14:13-21

When Jesus heard of the death of John the Baptist, he withdrew in a boat to a deserted place by himself. The crowds heard of this and followed him on foot from their towns. When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, and he cured their sick. When it was evening, the disciples approached him and said, "This is a deserted place and it is already late; dismiss the crowds so that they can go to the villages and buy food for themselves." He said to them, "There is no need for them to go away; give them some food yourselves." But they said to him, "Five loaves and two fish are all we have here." Then he said, "Bring them here to me," and he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. They all ate and were satisfied, and they picked up the fragments left over– twelve wicker baskets full. Those who ate were about five thousand men, not counting women and children.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for the protection of the Catholic faithful in Vietnam.

Many days, I feel like all I have is five loves and two fish. I know that it is amazing what God can do with that, but normally when all I have in front of me are metaphorical "five loves and two fish" I become anxious. I'm sure the disciples felt that way as well before Christ multiplied the loaves and fishes.

Look at what He does with our sins: He forgives them many times over what we deserve. Look at what He does with the Eucharist: He offers His Most Precious Body and Blood to us through the consecrated hands of the priest. Everyday, God works with our brokenness, and I have a lot of brokenness to share with Him.

I have a quote from the late Pope John Paul II that I turned into a photo collage. The quote is a prayer to God, "Forgive the wrong and multiply the good ..."

Lord, You multiplied the offering of loaves and fishes
so that those seeking You may be fed.
Lord, take what little I have to offer You
and multiply it through Your mercy.
Take my life, Lord, and multiply it for Your glory.
Take my deficiencies, Lord, and use it for Your good.
All I have, Lord, I offer to You.
Multiply it through Your Love and Mercy that endures forever. Amen.

Take care and God Bless.
