Matthew 13: 44-46

Jesus said to his disciples: "The Kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the Kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those who are unemployed.

" ... and sells all that he has ... "

It's easy to think about selling material possessions, although there are some things that I'm attached to. It's easy to think about turning over the talents that you've been given for God's glory.

What about the people in your lives?

I think about my family, who has been away from the Church for a long time. Would I be willing to sell my relationship with them for the Kingdom of heaven? I think about those I know who are living lifestyles that are contrary to God's ways. Would I be willing to sell my acceptance by them for the Kingdom of heaven?

Have you ever been in a place where you had to sell something in order to pay the bills? A few years ago, I had to sell a guitar that I was attached to in order to cover some bills. It was amazing how quickly it sold and looking back at it, I can see that I was not as attached to the guitar as I thought I was back then.

Looking back, though, I can also see a greater lesson. If I was not willing to even give up a luxury item for basic necessity, what makes me think that I could do what is necessary for the Kingdom of heaven which we know through faith? If this is the case, then isn't there a blessing in moments of poverty that God gives us? Isn't God giving us the opportunity to grow in holiness by the simple act of detaching ourselves from things that won't last?

What about those you know? God invites them to the Kingdom of heaven as well. They are called to "sell all" as well, whether it be "selling" the kingdom of staying at home on Sunday or "selling" living a lifestyle that doesn't have the freedom to say "no". Pray for them, and know that the sacrifice that you are called to may be for them, that you will be strengthened to sell your false sense of peace on earth so that they may know that the Kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Take care and God Bless.
