Mark 8:27-33

Jesus and his disciples set out for the villages of Caesarea Philippi. Along the way he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that I am?" They said in reply, "John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others one of the prophets." And he asked them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter said to him in reply, "You are the Christ." Then he warned them not to tell anyone about him.

He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and rise after three days. He spoke this openly. Then Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. At this he turned around and, looking at his disciples, rebuked Peter and said, "Get behind me, Satan. You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for an end to the civil war Jaffna (in northern Sri Lanka) caused by the government closure of the road linking Jaffna to the rest of the country.

Around this time last year, I made a pretty bold statement to God: "Lord, take my life. Do with it what you will."

What came afterwards was a profound purification and stripping of everything I drew comfort from. In a matter of days, the worldly things I drew comfort from was gone.

I can relate to Peter. He was inspired to know Who Jesus was and then he was told that Jesus would have to suffer and die (which probably overshadowed the fact that he would rise on the third day). His heart was filled with joy and then his heart was filled with fear. His own idea of how God was suppose to be God got in the way.

I can relate to Peter, and I'm sure that you can as well, because we're all human and we all "think as human beings do."

If we are going to think like God, then we must come to know God as best as we can so that we can understand His ways, and in understanding His ways, trust that He is The Christ as Peter proclaimed. Take care and God Bless.
