Matthew 6: 19-23

Jesus said to his disciples: "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal. But store up treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor decay destroys, nor thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.

"The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light; but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness. And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention: for the homebound.

When you think about what people crave, it often comes through the eyes. The lustful look of a man at an attractive woman. The look of envy a woman gives another woman who has something she wants. The prideful look of someone who has versus someone who doesn't have anything.

When I think about storing treasure on earth, I often think of the disposition of someone who is trapped in one of the seven deadly sins. Holding onto a grudge because of pride. Eating beyond what is good for you because of gluttony. Withholding charity because of greed or envy or any of the other seven deadly sins.

It is so paradoxical to think about storing treasure in Heaven. After all, wouldn't storing treasure in heaven be the offering of all that we have in charity? Forgiving our brother who sins against us. Rejoicing in the blessings of another. Giving from our treasure to someone in need freely and without attachment.

Lord, purify our hearts
So that we may properly see You.
Help us to recognize You
In our neighbors in need,
Storing up treasure in the Body of Christ,
And in doing so,
Storing up treasure in Heaven,
Where You dwell. Amen.

Take care an God Bless.
