Mark 3: 1-6

Jesus entered the synagogue. There was a man there who had a withered hand. They watched Jesus closely to see if he would cure him on the sabbath so that they might accuse him. He said to the man with the withered hand, "Come up here before us." Then he said to the Pharisees, "Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath rather than to do evil, to save life rather than to destroy it?" But they remained silent. Looking around at them with anger and grieved at their hardness of heart, Jesus said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out and his hand was restored. The Pharisees went out and immediately took counsel with the Herodians against him to put him to death.

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those who have recently given birth to children, that they may be provided for.

God commanded that the man with the withered hand should stretch out his hand. When the man did this, he was made whole.

He wasn't made whole by his act. He was made whole through God; the man merely cooperated with the command.

In the same way, God gave us ten commandments. It is easy to think that when we are doing well with our lives in not disobeying the commandments, that it is something that we are doing solely. Yet, it is God's command that we are following and therefore our obedience to His commands is our cooperation with Him.

He gives us Ten Commandments so that our lives may be saved rather than destroyed. If this is the case, then we must be in danger of being destroyed.

I don't know about you, but at this current time, I don't feel like I'm in danger of being destroyed. I know that there are some who are in danger of being destroyed for their faith, and you may be on this email list. My prayers go out to you at this time. Yet, for myself, I do not live in fear of someone ending my life because I proclaim that I am a Catholic.

If I were to look at the Ten Commandments, though, I can see how my life is being put in danger. I can see how easy it would be to fall in idolatry because of all the things that I am told that we "need". I can see how easy it would be to miss going to Mass on Sunday because of how busy we make our lives. I can see so many ways that our lives can be destroyed because of God's commands.

Let us pray for one another that we may be steadfast in hearing and knowing God's commands so that we may all rejoice together with and through Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Take care and God Bless.
