Mark 8:34–9:1

Jesus summoned the crowd with his disciples and said to them, "Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and that of the Gospel will save it. What profit is there for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? What could one give in exchange for his life? Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this faithless and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels."

He also said to them, "Amen, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see that the Kingdom of God has come in power."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for those who are struggling with addictions.

Have you ever had a friend that you were ashamed of having around when others are around? Being friends with someone shouldn't be something that is only done when it's convenient.

As Christ calls us friends, how often do we acknowledge that He is Lord of our life? Are we Christians when it's convenient or are we Christians?

What about our neighbor? Do we love our neighbor when it's convenient or when we want something? Are we fine with denying loving our neighbor because of something that we can't let go of.

It's tough, and that's why Christ calls us to deny ourselves.

Ask Jesus Christ today for the grace to recognize how you deny Him, and allow yourself to be humble this day to deny yourself and follow Him. Take care and God Bless.
