Friday after Ash Wednesday
Matthew 9:14-15

The disciples of John approached Jesus and said, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast much, but your disciples do not fast?" Jesus answered them, "Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for the repose of the souls who died in violent acts this day, especially those died in the city hall shooting in St. Louis and the standoff in Los Angeles. Also, for comfort for their families.

"What did you give up for Lent?"

How many times have your heard that so far? At times, it reminds me when people ask, "what did you get for Christmas?"

In a way, though, this season is like Christmas, except we get to choose our present. The fasting that we do should draw us closer to Christ. In today's reading, Christ is with the disciples... the Bridegroom is with them.

Yet, what did the disciples have to give up in order to be with Him? They gave up family, friends, their careers, comfort, etc. They left everything behind to follow Him, and it was their choice to do so.

What are you giving up for Lent? I pray that it is something that draws you closer to Him. I pray that it is something that will remind you that He is always faithful to you, and that He is with you until the end of time. Let's see a Wii last with you until the end of time.

Take care and God Bless.
