Matthew 5:20-26

Jesus said to his disciples: "I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter into the Kingdom of heaven.

"You have heard that it was said to your ancestors, You shall not kill; and whoever kills will be liable to judgment. But I say to you, whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment, and whoever says to his brother, 'Raqa,' will be answerable to the Sanhedrin, and whoever says, 'You fool,' will be liable to fiery Gehenna. Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Settle with your opponent quickly while on the way to court with him. Otherwise your opponent will hand you over to the judge, and the judge will hand you over to the guard, and you will be thrown into prison. Amen, I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for an end to Planned Parenthood.

There is a great challenge in today's reading, but also an opportunity for each of us to do our part in contributing to a culture of life.

We are surrounded by a culture of death. Presidential candidate Barack Obama is preaching how much of a priority he is placing on abortion. Gay marriages and education is being placed in front of everyone and speaking against it is labeled an act of hate. More and more couples feel like in vitro fertilization is their only hope to conceiving.

In this culture of death, let us not only work on praying for the souls that are in jeopardy, but let us also pray for those who support these "culture of death" agendas. Let us act with charity so that we do not foster hatred for our fellow brothers and sisters who are misguided.

Let us be transformed by Christ to call out to the lost in the culture of death so that we may all work toward out ultimate goal of heaven. Take care and God Bless.
