Monday in the Fifth Week of Lent
John 8: 1-11

Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. But early in the morning he arrived again in the temple area, and all the people started coming to him, and he sat down and taught them. Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery and made her stand in the middle. They said to him, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery. Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?" They said this to test him, so that they could have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger. But when they continued asking him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." Again he bent down and wrote on the ground. And in response, they went away one by one, beginning with the elders. So he was left alone with the woman before him. Then Jesus straightened up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" She replied, "No one, sir." Then Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on do not sin any more."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those who are traveling.

Jesus worked miracles so that the glory of God may be revealed. In all Jesus did, He did it in union, through submission, to the will of the Heavenly Father.

When I think of "glory", I think of great celebrations: winning the Super Bowl ... playing a difficult piece of music ... getting a job promotion. Yet, the great celebration here is not what we would want to think of as a great celebration. Sure, Jesus was able to turn away the scribes and Pharisees in their attempt to catch Jesus. Even greater than that, though, is the celebration of a person who was given the invitation to turn away from sin.

Athletes spend many hours in the gym training for the great glory of winning a championship. Musicians spend many hours honing their craft in order to play a glorious piece of music. The employee spends many hours of hard work in order to receive their promotion.

What kind of hours are we putting in? We may not be doing squats in a gym, but we can be merciful and invite others to receive God's mercy (1 rep). We may not have the ability to play the cello to where it is heartfelt expression, but we can receive God's mercy and in doing so, be able to be the realized masterpiece as intended by the Author of life.

The woman in today's reading is one of God's masterpieces, along with the scribes and Pharisees. As such, Jesus extends His mercy to them all, and He extends His mercy to each of us today. In being recipients of His mercy and heralds of His mercy, we too can glorify God as Jesus does today. Take care and God Bless.
