Okay, I realize that, after writing the reflection, that I took the reading from the wrong day. Today is officially the Feast of St. Thomas the Apostle. For the reading, please visit: http://www.usccb.org/nab/070308.shtml.

I don't know the status of the repairs for the mailing list server, so I figured I'd just do the way I did it for Tuesday.

Matthew 8:28-34

When Jesus came to the territory of the Gadarenes, two demoniacs who were coming from the tombs met him. They were so savage that no one could travel by that road. They cried out, "What have you to do with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the appointed time?" Some distance away a herd of many swine was feeding. The demons pleaded with him, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of swine." And he said to them, "Go then!" They came out and entered the swine, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea where they drowned. The swineherds ran away, and when they came to the town they reported everything, including what had happened to the demoniacs. Thereupon the whole town came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him they begged him to leave their district.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for safety for those who are and will be traveling for this extended weekend.

As I was driving home on yesterday from getting some work done to my car, I sat in humility. I was driving and I thought to myself, "it's like someone punctured a hole in heaven and the blessings are just flowing down on me."

From the car dealership to my house, the thought changed and evolved and it ultimately ended up as, "the blessings were always there... it was my heart that was closed to receiving it." What closed my heart from the blessings?

What went through the minds of the people in today's reading? Were they so preoccupied with the loss of their swine that they couldn't see that Christ just saved them from the demons? Were they so confused that they their only reaction was to ask Christ to leave?

In our own trials, we may not understand what's going on with our lives. In our own trials, we may not see how God is working on our souls through these trials? In our own trials, we may be so confused that we may forget that Christ is always there doing what is best for us.

As you see these things happening in your own life, offer up your fears... your idols... your confusion to Him, for none of us need to dwell on things that point us away from God's mercy and providence. Instead, offer it to Him so that these trials can become a prayer so that we may all grow in holiness. Take care and God Bless.
