Mark 6:7-13

Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits. He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick -- no food, no sack, no money in their belts. They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic. He said to them, "Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave from there. Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them." So they went off and preached repentance. The Twelve drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for the safety of those traveling.

What defines us as Christians when we're sent out "to the world?"

Is it in how we dress?...
"Oh, she must be a Christian because she dresses modestly."

Is it in the cross we wear?...
"Oh, that person must be a Christian because look at that cross!"

Is it in the bumper stickers on our cars?...
"Oh, a pro-life bumper sticker. You know what they must be."

When we leave mass, when we're sent out into the world, we are told to "go forth in peace to love and serve The Lord." How are we doing this? How are we being a testimony to others who long to know God's love and compassion? Are we just giving the man in need a dollar or do invest time to know his name and his situation? Are we "giving slack" to the person who is grieving or are we comforting them and pointing them to God's goodness? Are we bringing Christ to others who have never heard that, "blessed they who mourn, for they will be comforted." Can you make that real for them?

You can look at your life and see what things you lack and make excuses. If you read today's reading, you can see that Jesus commissions us forth without anything but trust in Divine Providence. In fact, the things we don't have are a blessing in itself!

What can we give? As Christians, the greatest thing we can give is Jesus Christ, Who is loving, compassionate and merciful. Take care and God Bless.
